After the first week of qualifying Slate Springs is still without a candidate for mayor.
The town is scheduled to hold a special election Tuesday, April 8 to elect the town’s next mayor. The special election is a result of the recent death of Mayor Dale Weeks.
The deadline to qualify is Thursday, April 3. Anyone living in the town limits and is a registered voter can run for mayor.
The current Slate Springs board consists of Carey Gregg, Darnell Nabors, Greg Lovorn, Andy Cannon and Donna Lovorn.
The mayor, nor the board of aldermen are paid. The only paid positions are Town Clerk Kim Lenard and Tax Collector Ida Pearl Cheesman.
Slate Springs’ population is 122 according to the 2010 U.S. Census.
