Work is expected to begin this fall on a $2 million addition to Calhoun Health Services (CHS) that will provide a new headquarters for the ambulance service, a larger physical therapy unit and office space for hospital administration.
“This is something we’ve needed for some time and we’re excited about the opportunities it will provide us to better serve the people of Calhoun County,” CHS Administrator James Franklin said.

The new facility will be located on the northeast corner of the CHS campus next door to the current medical clinic and physical therapy building.
Franklin said representatives with North Mississippi Medical Center evaluated the space needs for the hospital and approved the new 10,032 square foot addition.
The McCarty Company began drawing plans for the new facility in April. Expectations are for the first dirt moving to take place later this fall after the bid process is complete.
“The main reason we started looking at a new building was the ambulance service,” Franklin said. “Our current facility is in bad shape so they needed something better.”
The new facility will include bays for the ambulances on the east side of the building near Hwy. 9, sleeping quarters for the EMRs, and living space.
“The people who use our current physical therapy unit know how cramped they are,” Franklin said. “They’re on top of each other and that business has grown considerably over the past several years.”
The current physical therapy department will return to its original use of a fitness center for hospital employees.
The new building will also allow the administrative offices to move out of the clinical space of the current hospital.
“This will free up this space for offices for our nurses and clinical space that’s badly needed here,” Franklin said.
