Calhoun Academy’s Lady Cougars earned their first wins of the season this past week knocking off Kemper in district play and Kirk Academy.
The Lady Cougars defeated Kemper last week 11-5 in their first district game of the season.
Regan Hubbard led the offense with four hits. Hunter Robertson added three and Claire Carter two.
Haley Tedder drove in two runs at the plate and earned the win on the mound.
The Lady Cougars played in the Kirk Tournament over the weekend and earned third place.
They defeated the host team 7-1 with Jessie Rogers leading the offense with two runs batted in.
The offense struggled in their other two games – a 6-0 loss to Pillow and a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Winona.
“We need to get our bats going more as we move forward in the season,” Calhoun Academy Coach Darin Tedder said. “We’re leaving too many runners on base.”
Tedder said he’s pleased with the defense thus far, and feels good about the team as they move into the district schedule.
The Lady Cougars hosted Central Tuesday night in another district game. They are scheduled to play in the Starkville Expo this Saturday and travel to Hebron next Tuesday.
