Calhoun City’s Board of Aldermen will name their meeting room at the south end of city hall Ace’s Place for renowned citizen and musician Ace Cannon at their meeting last night.
They will also display his first saxophone there.
They set the millage rate at 31.5 mills, which represents no tax increase. The meeting was also a budget hearing, but no one came to ask questions. The board recessed until September 9 at 6:30 p.m. when they will adopt the budget for fiscal year 2015.
They approved a cable franchise transfer from Metrocast to BCI Broadband LLC.
They canceled a contract between Mississippi Warrant Network and Calhoun City Municipal Court to collect fines because the deputy clerk is handling the job, the mayor said.
They also authorized the clerk to issue payment to vendors during September upon receipt of invoices to Watkins, Ward & Stafford for FY 2013 audit; Hoover, Calhoun County Board of Supervisors and other vendors for white rock and supplies for chip sealing on Susan Circle, King Drive and Caldwell and pot hole patching around town; Travelers Insurance on property and equipment.
In other action they:
•Proclaimed October as Racial Reconciliation Celebration month;
•Made an agreement with Calhoun Health Services for priority status for issuance of water in case of an emergency or disaster;
•Approved final payment on Water Pollution Control Revolving Loan Fund Sewer Replacement Project for Greenbrier DSLP, $33,901.72 and Willis Engineering, $1,750 contingent on receiving funds;
•Accepted the resignation of police officer Keith Thacker, effective Sept. 30.
