Pittsboro board approved the 2015 town budget following a budget hearing Tuesday night.

The approved $56,240 budget for the town’s general fund is a 10% increase from last year.
The budget for the water department was also approved. Last year the town generated approximately $8,000 per month in revenue from its water system. After the rate increase previously approved, this year’s budget estimates $12,000 a month in revenue.

Last year the expenses in the water department exceeded the revenue by nearly $30,000. The new rates were imposed to cover that difference and took effect beginning with the August bills.
The board attributes much of the increase in expenses in 2014 to a breakdown at the well and repair costs on broken water lines from the ongoing fiber-optic project.

“Hopefully those expenses will drop this next year,” Alderman Jimmy Franklin said.
The board tabled a discussion on renegotiating its franchise agreement with Metrocast.
Alderman Fred Bullard and Mayor Reda Bullard were absent.
