Calhoun Academy made the most of their long trip to North River Christian in Tuscaloosa earning a 33-28 victory to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Cougars made their presence known on the opening kickoff when Joseph Boudreaux returned it 82 yards for a touchdown and an immediate 6-0 Cougar lead.
Scott Shankle then scored the first of his three touchdowns on the night when he scooped up a North River fumble and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown. The Cougars led 12-0 less than four minutes into the game.
Shankle would add a 1-yard touchdown run on a QB sneak with 4:53 to play in the opening quarter. Danner Tedder added the extra point for a 19-0 lead for Calhoun Academy.
Shankle capped the explosive first quarter with a 36-yard touchdown run for a 25-0 lead for the Cougars.
After an all Calhoun first quarter, North River dominated the second reeling off three consecutive touchdowns to close within 25-20 at the half. That momentum continued into the third quarter where North River completed the comeback with a touchdown and two-point conversion for a 28-25 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
It was early in the fourth that the Cougars recaptured the lead with a 4-yard touchdown run by Riley Dotson. Boudreux converted on the two-point conversion for a 33-28 lead that held up for the Cougar victory.
Calhoun Academy is on the road again next Friday when they visit Strider.
