Vardaman board of aldermen agreed on rental fees for the town’s Front Porch meeting space on Main Street, and set Clean Up-Day at the meeting of the board last night.
The board agreed to charge $200 rental fee plus a $100 refundable deposit for the Front Porch. They agreed to charge $50 per day for pre-decorating and post-cleanup if needed. They also made a motion to buy tablecloths for the building to rent out.
Clean-Up Day for the town has been set for Saturday, Oct. 25, the weekend before the annual Sweet Potato Festival kicks off.
In another matter, Jay Vanlandingham, of Vardaman, who worked with the youth football league, agreed to pay the town $50 every two weeks until his debt to the town is paid off.
Vanlandingham gave the town an invoice several months ago for uniforms, and the town paid him. The uniforms were never given to the players, and the town has been trying to get their money back.
Vanlandingham said he didn’t have a problem with paying the money back, but that he just didn’t have it.
The board agreed that Vanlandingham could sign an agreement with the town to pay $50 every other week for five weeks. If he fails to pay, the town will garnish his wages.
The board discussed continuing dog problems, but took no action.
They also made a motion to allow Police Chief Kenny Scott to hire extra police help if he needs it for Halloween and Sweet Potato Arts and Crafts Festival which falls on consecutive days this year– Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
The board also approved:
•Amending budget to actual expenses
•Advertising bank depositories for 2015-2016
•Adopting tax rolls 36 mills
•Completing the municipal compliance questionnaire.
