It’s the time of year when food banks and pantries are asking for food supplies as communities become aware of local residents needing assistance in providing essential meals for their families.

All media, TV stations, newspapers, radio and webpages, are announcing food collections local sites.
Calhoun County is not an exception.  There are families who need food assistance.  A recent conversation with Deborah Holmes, director of the local food assistance program for Calhoun County located in Bruce, substantiated that local need with facts.

“In the past month,  the food pantry had the largest number of submitted requests for food ever.” Holmes said. “Three-hundred-fifty-seven families received food.  A reminder, this specific local service happens only once each month.”
Calhoun County Churches United is supporting food assistance as part of the county-wide Thanksgiving Worship Service, Sunday, Nov. 16, 5:30 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro.

“Participants in the service are asked to bring the following as the offering that evening: rice, beans, powdered milk, flour, soups.  What better way can we give thanks in worship than to share what we have received,” said Rev. Nida Pittman, a member of CCCU’s coordinating committee. “These food supplies will be given to families in December previous to  the long Christmas Holiday season, when school food programs are not available to help families with meals.”

CCCU invites everyone to come together again this year to  give praise and thanksgiving.
