The Big Creek road (CR 306) was approved for some new paving Monday morning by the board of supervisors.

Chodie Myers

County Engineer Chodie Myers informed the board the county had received its portion of the $32 million in legislature appropriated State Aid funds totaling $307,000 with a requirement it be spent by July 1.
Myers proposed the county use the money to pave approximately 6,500 feet of the road starting at the town limits of Calhoun City and going as far as possible, which was estimated around the Gauley Road turn off.

The paving would not go over the bridges as the county is working to get a separate project to replace the bridges on the road.
“I didn’t want to pave the bridges because we’re going to have to tear them out,” Myers said.
The project will have to be advertised next and Myers explained how far the paving goes depends a lot on the bids received.
“There’s been no drop in the price of asphalt,” Myers said.

Asked if the county could do some of the work to make it go farther, Myers said “the county can haul off waste materials, but a contractor will have to do the paving.”
