The Christmas season officially kicks off this Saturday, Dec. 6 with Bruce and Calhoun City both hosting their annual parades.
The Bruce parade will be held at 4:30 p.m. and be preceded by Pancakes with Santa in the Bruce Museum that morning. The annual Bruce Rotary auction will be held Thursday, Dec. 4 in the museum.
The theme for the parade is “Christmas at Grandma’s” and the Grand Marshal is Lakyn Burt.
The Bruce Arts Council will be showing “Home Alone 2” in the Bruce Cinema building on the square at 6 p.m. There is no admission charge.
The Calhoun City Parade, with a theme of “Hometown Christmas,” will begin at 7 p.m. and be preceded by the holiday bazaar from noon to 7 p.m. outside the Methodist Corner.
A soup, chili and corn dog supper will also be served prior to the parade inside the Methodist Corner beginning at 5 p.m.
Grand Marshals for the parade will be local members of the 858th National Guard unit.
Children’’s book author Whitney White will also join CCES third graders Kinley Parker and Jordan Wells for a book signing at the Methodist Corner from 5-6:30 p.m.
The students will be signing the new Christmas book they completed as part of a SPICE class project at CCES assisted by White. Parker wrote the book and Wells illustrated. White will also be signing her new book, “Kids are like Christmas trees.”
The Vardaman Christmas Parade will be Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. The Big Creek Redneck Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.
