Mary Elizabeth Hardy Camp, 92, died Monday, December 15, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was born March 6, 1922 in Water Valley, to the late Griffin G. and Lena Carr Hardy. She graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Water Valley, where she is remembered for her outstanding athletic ability as a basketball player. After graduating high school she married William Louie Camp and together they owned and operated Camp Motor Company, where she retired as office manager and bookkeeper. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved taking care of her family and others. Until her health failed she was a faithful member of the Water Valley Church of Christ.
Her funeral services was Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valle with Brad Camp, Chase Camp, Billy Joe Dorris, John Forsyth, Alan Wilbourn, Steve Thompson and Griff Camp serving as pallbearers. Terry Hardy, Grant Thompson, Paul Forsyth, Alan Hardy, Jacob Ellis, Ted Camp, Daniel Wolf, Matt Dalton and Griff Forsyth served as honorary pallbearers.
She is survived by her daughter, Marvelene Camp McCullar, Senatobia; two sons, William Griffin Camp, Jackson, TN and Bobby Louie Camp, Oxford; three sisters, Dot Forsyth, Nancy Wooten and Julia Thompson, all of Water Valley; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Louie Camp and her brother, Jack Hardy.
The family requests that memorials be made to Pine Valley School House Fund, 940 County Road 100, Water Valley, MS 38965.
