Vardaman basketball is coming off a difficult week where the girls’ and boys’ teams lost seven of eight combined games.
The lone win came from the Lady Rams over rival Smithville 52-29. Shylysses Rimmer led the way with 21 points. Tiara Jones added 12.
The boys lost their matchup with the Seminoles 65-45. Brandon Washington scored eight and Malik McKinney seven.
Earlier last week, Coffeeville swept both Vardaman teams. The boys lost 114-18. Brandon Walker and Wesley Casey each scored five points for the Rams.
The Lady Rams were beaten 54-28. Brittany Hawkins and Alaysia Madkins each scored eight.
South Pontotoc defeated the Rams 61-30 and the Lady Rams 59-49. Tiara Jones scored 17, Madkins 15 and Rimmer 11 for the Lady Rams. Deon Johnson, Kent Casey and Brandon Walker each scored six for the Rams.
East Webster defeated the Rams 61-31 with Kent Casey scoring eight. The Lady Rams lost in Cumberland 72-43. Rimmer led with 22 points and Madkins added nine.
Vardaman was scheduled to host TCPS Tuesday night. Scores weren’t available prior to press time.
Both teams play Strayhorn at Potts Camp on Saturday.
