Who cares if it snows? I do

Why do I care if it snows? My school days are long gone, so I won’t get a snow day.
Work is less than two blocks from home, so impassable roads are no excuse.
But, we still yearn for it here in North Mississippi. It is fairly rare, and even rarer to have more than a couple of inches at a time.

The last sledding slow I remember was more than 20 years ago. My then 50-something year old parents hopped on a sled at the top of my driveway and slid down the hill to the middle of their yard. At the time it didn’t seem like a very good idea, but it turned out fine– no broken bones.
We bought sleds that year– enough for all the children to have one. And seriously, they have been hanging in the shed since then. My dad said they were the snow jinx, and we should get rid of them.

I’m pretty sure there were big snows when I was young, but I don’t remember them. Only a rare photo or two.
There are two  memorable snows for me in recent years– one was Christmas morning Dec. 25, 2010, when we woke up to a one-to-two inch snow. It was very pretty and didn’t last long– the perfect kind.

The other was a nighttime snow probably before that year and Joel and I got out to walk toward town and take some pictures. There were no cars, just fresh fallen snow, and it was beautiful.
There’s just something so serene and peaceful about that.
Another reason to wish for a nice snow (with no ice) is for my granddaughters to play in.

All day Monday, temperatures in Bruce hovered around 33-34 degrees making for a very cold and rainy day. It was about 5 p.m. when temps dropped enough for a little bit of ice, but the sleet only lasted a few minutes. And that was it.
Others north and south of us weren’t so lucky. Calhoun County Schools started two hours later Tuesday morning, to allow any icy bridges, etc. to thaw out.

The Saturday Night Live 40 year anniversary special Sunday night was indeed a blast from the past.
I’ve been watching the show since my early 20s. Back then, if you missed it or fell asleep early, too bad. But now, I record it every week and watch it at my convenience.

I could never pick a favorite era– and when I see an old clip, it often brings back memories of different eras in my life– watching when my children were small, watching with Kerry at her house in Columbus, Joel and I watching when we first got married, etc.
I could never, ever pick a favorite era or performer, but Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wigg, Eddie Murphy, Phil Hartman, Darrell Hammond, Tracy Morgan and Jimmy Fallon would be on my list.

Granddaughters Addi Claire and Ellie Kathryn spent Saturday and Sunday with us, so we were on Frozen overload. Addi Claire has moved on to other things, but not 3-year-old Ellie Kathryn. She watched it continually, all weekend. She knows all the words to the songs and to the movie.
And now I know all the words to the songs, and on Tuesday morning, they are still playing in my head– Love is an Open Door, For the First Time in Forever, Let it Go, Do You Want to Build a Snowman?, Frozen Heart and In Summer. It won’t stop.
