In 2012, the American Cancer Society raised $934,000,000 to support the fight against cancer. Since then, that number has only increased because of the good and giving people around the country.

Calhoun County citizens are examples of these outstanding people. The county’s Relay for Life teams hold their annual Relay for Life event, and they take great pride in it. The event is scheduled April 10.
Though this county is small compared to the rest of the nation, Calhoun has managed to contribute a total of $4061.11 so far this year. The Juniorette Club’s team, which includes young female students from BHS, has raised about $1500 or so of that total, but they are not done yet!

On February 6, the Juniorettes’ Club held a roadblock on Bruce square that generated $725 to be donated to Relay for Life. This was a huge accomplishment for them, and they chose to express their excitement by thanking the community for the generous donations.
“It’s nice to see all the people of Bruce donating to a good cause!” said Logan Collins.

Participating in this event not only showed the girls how good it feels to give back to the people who need it most, but it also taught them about working as a team.
“It was a great experience that allowed the Juniorette girls to come together and enjoy each other,” said club president Chelsea Tillman.

The girls also plan to donate items to the annual Relay for Life Auction February 21 and hold another “Cupcakes with Disney” even March 15. More details on that fundraiser will come later. All proceeds from these events go straight to The American Cancer Society.
These contributions of time and money show that a small county can make a big difference.
