Wildcats, Lady Wildcats, Lady Rams advance to championship games; Lady Trojans in consolation

The Calhoun City Wildcats and Lady Wildcats, along with the Vardaman Lady Rams all won Thursday night to advance to their region championship games tonight. The Bruce Lady Trojans fell to the consolation game.

The Lady Wildcats won in the most thrilling fashion. After opening an early 10 point lead, Eupora chipped away and took a two point lead of their own with less than a minute to play in the district 4-2A semifinal at East Webster.

Calhoun City tied the game at 71 with :29 left to play and then Kiya Flowers stole a Lady Eagle pass and broke for the basket laying it in to put the Lady Wildcats on top for good with 16 seconds left. Another free throw from Flowers, who finished with 11 points in the game, ended the game with a 74-71 Lady Wildcat win.

Sierra Coleman led ‘City with 21 points. The Lady Wildcats will face host East Webster in tonight’s championship at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats had an easier time with East Webster leading the entire way and pulling away late for a 63-42 win.

Ladavius Draine led all scorers with 25 points. Tyius Jennings added 15 and Brieton Sykes 10 for the Wildcats.

They will face Okolona in the championship game tonight at 8 p.m.

Both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats clinched a home playoff game next Monday (girls) and Tuesday (boys).

The Vardaman Lady Rams also clinched a home playoff game for next Monday and advanced to the 41-A championship game tonight against Coffeeville.

The Lady Rams defeated Houlka 50-36 in Thursday’s semifinal.

Shylysses Rimmer led with 19 points and Alaysia Madkins scored 13.

The Bruce Lady Trojans fell to East Webster 81-29 Thursday to put them in tonight’s consolation game at East Webster against Eupora.

Makesha Harris led with 21 points. Bruce will also be on the road next Monday in the playoffs.
