Everyone around the world is always looking for something new and exciting to talk about, and the buzz in the small town of Bruce is prom!

The date is April 25 at the Memphis Zoo. Charter buses will depart from BHS parking lot at 5 p.m., but all students need to be there no later than 4:30 to take pictures.
Students will arrive before 7 p.m., and be escorted by private trams to their beautiful, private event at the Northwest Passage. They will enjoy a sit-down dinner catered by Ziparo’s, private sea lion show, music to dance to from the band “Twisted Iris”, photo sessions by Keri Smithson of Picture Perfect Photography, and the crowning of Prom King and Queen. It will end at midnight.

The menu for dinner provided by Master Chief Joe Ziparo will include shaved steak coated with a secret sauce, green bean bundles, red skin-on potatoes, and a Caesar salad. A brownie/ pastry station will be provided.

During the photo sessions, Smithson will start with friend/group shots. Then, there will be a photo booth set up. After that, Smithson will snap shots of the King and Queen. Finally, they will get together for one final group shot. Any make-up photo booth or couple/friend shots will be squeezed  in at the very end of the night. She will be pre-selling CDs of photos, so be sure and grab an order form from her, Alison Tyler, or a senior.  CDs are $10, and prints will also be offered. The money and order forms for these are due April 24. To continue, she will book  30-minute mini-sessions all day on the day of prom to capture everyone in their moments of glory. Contact her on Facebook on her business page, “Picture Perfect Photography” to book a session.

The thing on every girl’s mind right now is probably the Prom King and Queen situation. Well, have no fear because Alison Tyler has a plan!
“What I’m thinking about doing is most likely doing nominations at school sometime, and parents can count them and narrow it down to like the top four for each. I plan to have the kids vote on the bus going up there or right when they get off the bus.”

Though this night will be about having fun and making unforgettable memories, there are some rules each attendee must follow. 1. No alcohol or any other illegal substances. 2. No one younger than ninth grade may attend and no one over 20 without the approval of the parental group. 3. Students MUST be at BHS by 4:30 in order to leave by 5. The bus will leave without an attendant. 4. All students must ride the charter bus there and back because there is a private entrance to the zoo. The event will be contained by a handful of chaperones and the zoo’s own security. Prom tickets are on sale at BHS for $50. See Tracey Bailey for those. Cut-off for buying tickets is April 24.

To raise their goal of $5000, the Parent/Student Prom Committee has come up with a number of fundraisers. They earned a good  sum of money from bake sales February 6.

Their next fundraiser is a Crawfish Boil February 28 behind Dr. Longest’s office. Seniors have begun selling tickets, and the product will be boiled crawfish with corn and potatoes for $7 a pound. Individuals with pre-sold tickets may pick theirs up the day of the boil between 4-7 p.m., but need to have their ticket to do so.
There will also be baked goods offered at the event. Anyone willing to work or bake for the event needs to come to the next Parent Prom Meeting at The Cart Barn Inn at 6 p.m. February 19 or contact Alison Tyler or Kayde Coleman, senior class president.

There will be another bake sale April 3, where a furniture raffle will be held. The committee has collected a series of items including a chaise lounge, “his and hers” recliners, and  more. Tickets for the furniture raffle are not on sale yet, but more information on that fundraiser will come later.
The senior class is beginning to construct a slide show of memorable photographs of themselves that will be sold. No details or other prices have been set, but this will serve as a reminder to the senior class to turn in several pictures to Kayde Coleman or Savanna Smith. They are looking for any type pictures of seniors, from baby to senior year.  “The more pictures we get, the better the slideshow will be!” said Coleman.

The committee plans to raise as much money as possible in order to possibly leave whatever is left over for next year’s prom.
“We’ve been very appreciative of all the support given by the community,” said Tyler. “I’ve enjoyed getting to know many of the seniors and helping them create this lasting memory.”
