Calhoun City defeated Vardaman 7-3 Monday night in what Wildcat Coach Josh Miller called a “slop fest.”
Both teams were just glad to get on the field and play under sunshine. It was their first action since the season opening county tournament nearly three weeks ago. The snow, sleet and steady rain over the past few weeks left the field rather “sloshy” Monday, but baseball was played.
Evan Parker earned the win for the Wildcats who improved to 3-0 on the season. Steele Liles, Kemon Hall, Jo Gray and Jordan England each had singles for ‘City.
Brandon Washington had two hits for the Rams. Allen Hendrix, Tyler Boyette, Ty Long and Hunter Spencer each added one.
Vardaman is scheduled to play at West Union Friday, at Hebron and Houston on Saturday and host Houlka next Tuesday.
Calhoun City is scheduled to visit Eupora Friday night in the division opener and then host the Eagles next Tuesday.
