Bruce defeats Charleston; ‘City falls to Choctaw; Vardaman hosts county tourney Saturday

Like everything else, the cold, wet weather has created a slow start to the high school softball season, but things should pick up with the county tournament scheduled for this Saturday in Vardaman.

Bruce and Vardaman will open the round robin tournament with the 11 a.m. game, followed by Bruce and Calhoun City at 1 p.m. and then Vardaman and Calhoun City in the finale at 3 p.m.
Vardaman has had the most action so far this season thanks to a trip to Florida over Spring Break where they played three games.

They lost to Rutherford 8-1 with Sydney Huffman recording the only two hits for the Lady Rams – a single and a home run. She also pitched for VHS allowing five hits and two earned runs in six innings of work.

The Lady Rams defeated Baker 6-4 with Abbey Casey earning the win. Huffman, Anna Lucius and Jessica Rodgers each had two hits.
Vardaman concluded the trip with a 13-3 loss to Choctawhatchee. Laci Jo Fugett, Madison Bullard, Johnna Landreth and Sara Wooten each had a hit.
Both Bruce and Calhoun City played their first games Monday night.

Bruce topped Charleston 14-1. Abby Free and Abbie Patton each had two hits. Bailey Massey, Caitlyn Burt and Logan Collins each had one.
The Lady Trojans’ next home game is next Tuesday against Eupora.
The Lady Wildcats lost to Choctaw County 12-2 Monday night in Calhoun City. Avery Bullard pitched for the Lady ‘Cats.
