Calhoun County dominates Girls’ North Half powerlifting meet

Calhoun City, Bruce and Vardaman dominated the Class I North Half Girls’ Powerlifting meet last week winning eight of the 11 weight classes.

Calhoun City finished on top of the team competition with 51 points, followed by Bruce at 47, Coffeeville 25, East Union 23, Mantachie 20, Vardaman 17, and Hatley and Potts Camp rounding it out.

Calhoun City had three competitors to finish first in their weight class.
Perry Beth Liles earned top honors in the 114 pound class with teammate Abby Vance earning second.
Alicia Feliciano took top honors in the 123 pound class with teammate Mary Mason Langford finishing second and Bruce’s Julianna Cain third.
Lady Wildcat Yakema Harper earned first in the 148 pound class to earn her a trip to Jackson.

First place finishers for Bruce included Bailey Massey in the 132 pound class. Landyn Stoddard of Calhoun City finished second in that class.
Deidra Gibson led the 181 pound weight class and Tamera Talford earned top honors in the 198 pound class. Shanya Mugford of Calhoun City finished second behind Talford.

Alexis Yates of Vardaman earned first in the 97 pound weight class. Lady Ram Jaquita Hatchett earned first in the 105 pound class with Lady Trojans Brooke Bennett and Jersey Ferguson finishing second and third.

Other Calhoun Countians advancing to state are Courtny Norman of Calhoun City who finished second in the 220 pound class, and Angel Edwards and Shekerria Stephens of Bruce who placed second and third in the 220 plus class.
The girls’ state championship meet is April 17-18 in Jackson.
