An investigation is ongoing regarding a pair of break-ins of drug stores in Calhoun City last Sunday as authorities work to idenitfy the four suspects.

Security video at Southern Discount Drugs on Hwy. 9 in front of Calhoun Health Services showed four burglars wearing black masks, gloves, and jackets breaking into the store around 2:30 a.m.

They entered through the front door, prying it open with a large crowbar, Calhoun City Police Chief Benny Langford said.
The store’s alarm system notified the dispatch center and a ‘City policeman was dispatched.

The burglars had already escaped upon the officer’s arrival with prescription drugs only.
Chief Langford discovered the break-in at Chandler Drug, on the square, later that morning.

An exact time of that break-in is not known because the burglars stole the recorder from the surveillance system. They also escaped out the back door with drugs, cash, a stereo system and a gun, Sheriff Greg Pollan said.

Authorities are reviewing surveillance tapes at City Hall to attempt to get a look at the suspects leaving the scene.
Langford said they are still working with both drug stores to get an exact amount of how much and what drugs were stolen.

Sheriff Pollan said close to a dozen similar drug store burglaries have taken place around Northeast Mississippi over the past month.

“We are working with other law enforcement agenices to compare evidence and try to identify potential suspects,” Pollan said.
