Joseph Lee Wright, Sr., 78, of Calhoun City, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born October 13, 1936 in Winston County, the son of James R. Wright and Byrdie B. Robertson Wright. He was retired construction worker for Universal Steel and a member of New Liberty Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fanatic and a loving grandfather to his grands and great-grands.
His funeral service was Friday at 2 p.m. at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with Bro. Jimmy Vance officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City. Pallbearers were Donnie Smith, Jay Clanton, Buck Langford, Jeff Parker, Greg Parker, Brad Smith, Trent Gray and Mike Collums. Honorary pallbearers were his coffee shop friends at Buck’s.
He is survived by two daughters, Tina Clanton, Derma; Vickey Stone, Tishomingo; one son, Lee Wright, Derma; one sister, Elsie Rae Francisco, Wolcott, NY; one brother, Jerome Wright, Louisville; two grandchildren, Jay (Kayla) Clanton; Maegan (Trent) Gray and four great-grandchildren, Bennett Clanton, Jase Clanton, Addison Bullock and Lyla Gray. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Lester Wright.
