•QUICK BITES will meet Thursday, June 11 at noon at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Program is accepting credit/debit cards at festivals or markets.

•Calhoun City Library Summer Reading Program continues with a program presented by Calhoun City Police Chief Tito Lopez.  Chief Lopez will talk about “Policemen as Heroes.” The program is Thursday, June 11.  Sign in at the library at 9:45. Also, the movie, Brave is the next Movie Monday, June 15 at 2 p.m. All programs are free and open to the public.

•VIC ELLARD MEMORIAL SERVICE will be Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Calhoun Historical Society Building (the old Methodist Church behind the courthouse) in Pittsboro. All are invited to attend.

•Derma VFD fundraiser will be Saturday, June 13, at 4 p.m. Chicken plates, cooked by Jamie Rutherford, will be sold for $8 each. Plates may be purchased in advance or the day of at the Fire Station.

•DAVIDSON REUNION will be Sunday, June 14 at Bruce Community Building starting at 10 a.m. All friends and relatives are invited.

•Pieces and Patches Quilt Club will meet Monday, June 15 at 1 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building. Everyone is welcome.

•Create Club will meet Tuesday, June 16 at 6 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building. Group will be making a beaded garden stakes. Fees announced later. You must call the MSU Extension Office (412-3177) by June 12 to participate. Everyone is invited to attend.

•Calhoun County Forestry meeting will be Thursday, June 18 at 6 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Topic will be Forest Herbicides. Call 412-3177 by Tuesday, June 16, to allow for food preparation.

•Bob Hawley is the guest speaker at the Yalobusha Historical Society Meeting, Thursday, June 18, at 2 p.m. in its headquarters, the former Coffeeville Presbyterian Church, and his topic is the USS Jackson. The USS Jackson (LCS 6) is an Independence variant of the Littoral Combat Ship Class. This is the first ship named after the Capital City of Mississippi and is scheduled to be commissioned at Gulfport in 2015.  Visitors welcome.

•Master Gardeners and Gardener’s Delight will meet Monday, June 22 at the Multi-Purpose Building at 6:30 p.m. with guest speaker Steve Winters, Grenada County extension agent. Everyone is invited.

•QUICK BITES will meet Thursday, June 25 at noon via video conference at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Program is on fire ants.

•BHS CLASS of 1960 REUNION will be Friday, July 10 at 6 p.m. on the Bruce Square in conjunction with the Sawmill Festival (Look for Class of 1960). Saturday, July 11, the group will meet around 5 p.m. at the Bruce Museum (old E.L. Bruce Co. Store). Meal begins at 7 p.m. For info, call Kay Ferguson 983-2448 or Jane Plunk 983-7586.

•Pleasant Agers will not meet in June, July and August. The group will resume meetings in the fall.

•BRUCE MUSEUM 5K COLOR RUN will be Saturday, July 11 during the Sawmill Festival. Race begins next to Bruce City Hall. Pre-register for $30 until June 30, receive t-shirt and one color pack. July 1-race day registration is $40. Enter at racesonline.com or at the Chamber Office, 983-2222. Walkers and runners of all ages are welcome.

•BHS Class of 1965 will have its 50th reunion on Saturday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cart Barn Inn in Bruce. Cost is $15 per person.

•BHS CLASS of 1975 Reunion will be Saturday, July 18, at 7 p.m. in the Museum on the Bruce square. Cost per person is $25. Send payments to: Carol Clark Cowsert-BHS Class of 1975, P.O. •Calhoun County Fair Adult & Youth Exhibit Books… Fair Association invites the people of Calhoun County to enter exhibits in the county fair July 20-25. Exhibits books are available at the Extension Office and public.

•FAIREST OF THE FAIR PAGEANT… Calhoun County Fairest of the Fair pageant will be Monday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Contest open to any participant from any county. Register for pageant anytime between now and the start of pageant Monday, July 20. Entry fee: Beauty/Photogenic $25, Photogenic $10, Beauty $15. Contestants MUST wear WESTERN WEAR ONLY. 2014 Fairest of the Fair winners may compete this year only if they move up to the next age division. Girls age divisions: 0-12 months,13-23 months, 2-3 years, 4-5 years, 6-8 years, 9-11 years, 12-15 years, 16-18 years. Boys age divisions: 0-12 months,13-23 months, 2-3 years, 4-6 years, 7-10 years.

•Calhoun County Fair Gate Armbands… Calhoun County Fair Association will be selling arm bands for fair gate admission the week of the fair for $15 each. By buying armbands ahead of time, you will save one night’s admission. You may purchase your armband at the Multi-Purpose building in Pittsboro. Armband is not for rides, but for gate admission ONLY.

•Intensive one day musical theatre camp for high school students in grades 9-12 will be offered by Tupelo Community Theatre Tuesday, July 21 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Camp will include emphasis on acting, music, choreography and technical areas. Suzanne Oakley and Tom Booth will direct the camp. Cost is $50, will include lunch and is limited to 20 students. Call 844-1935 to register.

•Calhoun County Fair 4-H/FFA Meat Goat Show will be at the Calhoun County Fair at the Calhoun County Agri- Center in Pittsboro, Wednesday, July 22 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. For more information contact Trent Barnett at the Calhoun County Extension Office at 412-3177.

•Calhoun County Fair Biscuit Making… Calhoun County Happy Homemakers MHV club will be making homemade biscuits at the Calhoun County Fair Thursday, July 23-24 at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to this demonstration. •Calhoun County Fair Youth Pig Scramble will be held at the Calhoun County Fair Thursday, July 23, at 7 p.m. or immediately after the Pet Show. Participants must be 12 years old and under. The pig scramble will be held at the Livestock Barn at the Fairgrounds in Pittsboro. For more information contact Trent Barnett at the Calhoun County Extension Office at 412-3177.

•Calhoun County Fair Pony Pull contest will be held at the at the Calhoun County Agri-Center in Pittsboro Thursday, July 23 at 7 p.m. For more information contact Trent Barnett at the Calhoun County Extension Office at 412-3177.

•4-H Pot Luck Supper at the Fair will be Thursday, July 23 from 5-7 p.m. for $5 a plate. This is a 4-H fundraiser project and is being held at the Calhoun County Fair. Come to the Calhoun County Multi-Purpose Building to purchase your supper plate. For more information contact Trent Barnett at 412-3177.

•Calhoun County Fair Rodeo will be Friday, July 24 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and watch local cowboys and cowgirls as well as competitors from other states compete in the bull riding, bareback horses, roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing. •CALHOUN CO. FAIR BAKING/CANDY CONTEST with adult and youth divisions will be held at the Calhoun County Fair at the Pittsboro Fairgrounds, Saturday, July 25. Registration from 11 a.m.-Noon. Categories include breads, cookies, cakes, pies and candy. Call the Extension Office (412-3177) for info and an exhibit book.

•Calhoun County Fair Youth Cook-Off will be at the at the Fairgrounds, Saturday, July 25. Cook-off begins at 10:30 a.m. and will end at noon. Participants need to bring their own grill, charcoal, lighter fluid, utensils, tables, chairs, etc. The Fair Association will provide the meat and paper plates. Participants do not have to be a resident of Calhoun County to participate. For more information call Trent Barnett, 4-H Youth Agent at the Extension Office at 412-3177. Come and join the fun.

•Calhoun County Big Buck Contest at the Calhoun County Fair & Livestock Show will be Saturday, July 25 with registration and scoring from at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Typical and non-typical. Limit two mounts per person. $10 per mount entry fee. $50 first place prize in typical and non-typical. Adult and youth division. Whitetail only. Contact the Calhoun County Extension Office at 662-412-3177 for information.

•FREE ADULT READING AND WRITING HELP... Bruce First Baptist Church is offering free help to any adult who wants to learn to read or improve their reading ability. Tutors certified by the Mississippi Baptist Literacy Missions Board. Confidential tutoring sessions once per week for one to one and a half hours. Each learner will be matched with one tutor. No charge for the help, there is a small cost for the learning books. Call the office at Bruce First Baptist Church 983-2218 for information.

•NORth CALHOUn GRADUATES of 1952-1970 are raising funds to place a memorial stone on the grounds of the school in Bruce. An account has been set up by Leon Harris for donations at BancorpSouth, and the address for mailing is PO Box 368, Bruce, MS 38915.

•SOUth CALHOUn GRADUATES from the school beginning to 1970 are raising funds to place a memorial stone on the grounds of the school in Calhoun City. An account has been set up by Ada Armstrong, Earnest Fox, Carl Roberts and Frank Morgan. Bring donations to Renasant Bank in Calhoun City. For info, call Ada at 662-414-6063. Dedication will be Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

•CALHOUN COUNTY TRANSIT BUS (formerly LIFT bus) has routes available to Oxford, Pontotoc, Houston and Grenada for doctors’ appointments and to fill prescriptions. Ages 59 and under rate is $6. •DRIVER’S LICENSE RENEWAL station is open in Pittsboro every third Tuesday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the old tax assessor’s office/church building near the entrance to the Multi-Purpose Building on Hwy 9.

•CALHOUN ANTIQUE TRACTOR CLUB meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Vardaman Sweet Potato Festival building. The club is setting up a senior scholarship fund and has begun fundraising. Danny Tutor is club president. For more info, call 682-7594.

•LOOSA SCHOONA CHAPTER of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet the second Monday of
