Problems with meters and unpaid water bills dominated conversation at Tuesday’s board meeting in Pittsboro.
Water Director Charles Mahan began by asking the board how to handle a problem meter at the Romero home. He said they currently owe more than $1,100 for the past several months. Mahan suggested the meter may have begun to fail, causing the high readings, and has possibly quit since.
The board asked Mahan to investigate the situation more and report back.
Mahan also noted there are several other water customers scheduled to have their meter locked the first of next week if their bills are not paid.
In a separate matter, Clerk Amy White informed the board the grant money for the new fire truck has been released, so town should have it within the next week to finalize its loan.
It was mentioned prior to the meeting that Miranda Collins is opening the “New Start Resource Center” in the building next to Pittsboro Town Hall.
It’s described as a “non-profit organization to help everyone have resources to start a new life and to help the community thrive.” The contact number is 662-800-1630.
