Buck Pettit

Vester Clark “Buck” Pettit, 75, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at NMMC in Tupelo after a lengthy illness. A Houston native, he was born October 8, 1937, to the late Clarence Pettit and Audrey Mae Clark Pettit. In his earlier career he worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He later began working with Chickasaw County and retired after approximately 30 years of service. He was a dedicated member of Pearson Chapel Church. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards and dominos with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Peggy Ruth Dodson Pettit; his four children, Jerry (Tammy) Pettit, Linda Pettit (Stewart) McKell, Tupelo; Mike (Christy) Pettit, and Sharon Pettit (Mark) Stevens, Houston; 12 grandchildren, Chris (Ellen) Hill, Shannon; Lance Pettit, Houston; Anna Hill (Anthony) Wozinak, Scottsdale, Az.; Mark Stevens, Houlka; Shane Pettit, Orlando, Fl.; Cyndell Linley, Houston; John Taylor Stevens, Houston; Laken Pettit, Tupelo; Makenzie Pettit, Houston; Anna Ragen Pettit, Houston; Eric (Kathi) Smith, Houston; Amanda Smith, Tupelo; five great grandchildren; three brothers, James Marion (Norma) Pettit, Delbert (Helen) Pettit, and Prentiss (Treacer) Pettit; two sisters, Louise (Doc Wayne) McGee and Virginia Spencer, as well as many nieces and nephews, church family, dialysis friends, and many wonderful nurses and doctors that made his last years as peaceful as possible. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oneal Pettit and Mervin Pettit; four sisters, Olene Vance, Ruby McCardle, Pearlie Dulaney and Jean Walters.

The funeral service was Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Houston Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Samuel officiating. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Dulaney, Kenneth Funderburg, Jimmy James, Joe Loftin, Jimmy Pettit and David Gene Walters.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Buck Pettit to Pearson Chapel Church, 512 CR 24, Houston, MS 38851, to help rebuild the sanctuary that burned July 26, 2013.
