Supervisor Gwin Longest and challenger Justin Ferguson will square off in a runoff next Tuesday, Aug. 25 in the Democratic Primary.
Longest led the ticket in the Aug. 4 primary, but failed to get the required 50% to advance to the general election in November where Republican Keith Bollinger has already advanced.
Absentee voting is ongoing for the runoff election and the circuit clerk’s office in Pittsboro will be open from 8 a.m. until noon this Saturday, Aug. 22.
Only those who voted in the Democratic Primary on Aug. 4 in district three, or those who didn’t vote at all can participate in the runoff. If you voted in the Republican Primary Aug. 4, you cannot vote in this runoff.
In other election news, Willie Ray Brown became the first qualifier for the District Three School Board seat.
Brown, a former teacher and coach at Bruce, officially qualified on Monday.
The deadline to qualify for that race is Sept. 4. It will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot.
