Airman First Class Zachary Bennett, a native of Bruce, recently received the Ashton B. Carter secretary of defense challenge coin.
The coins are normally presented in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. Bennett received the coin while he was stationed in Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea.
He also received the Air Force Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service as Administration Apprentice , 51st Mission Support Group, 51st Fighter Wing.
During that year, he aided training five squadrons, helped drive the group from fourth to first in on time closeouts and the only group to report no late evalutations. Also he provided security for 110 Emergency Operation Center personnel.
Bennett, son of Ronnie and Nancy Bennett of Bruce, is now stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. He is a 2012 graduate of Bruce High School.
