The Bruce Board of Aldermen took steps Tuesday to pave city streets, re-roof the city shed and clean out the ditch behind Haworth.
Mayor Rudy Pope asked each alderman to submit to him the streets they think most need paving in their respective wards.
“I need you to get me these streets as soon as possible,” Pope said. “I’m ready to go. I’m anxious to get some stuff done.”
Pope noted that South McSweyne in front of Bruce Elementary should not be included because it is part of a grant project still in the works.
Street Dept. Director Joe Farmer suggested the board consider streets with heavy school traffic.
“A lot of those desperately need work,” Farmer said.
“We’ll come up with some spots and let you know,” Alderman Danny Rodgers said.
No time table was set on when the streets would be named or when paving would begin. The board did set a budget work session for next Tuesday, Aug. 13.
The board instructed the mayor to meet with the city engineer to get help writing specs for an advertisement for bids to clean out the ditch behind Haworth.
The board agreed to advertise for bids to re-roof the city shed and to paint outer woodwork on the library.
Mayor Pope said the city intends to dig up the old asphalt and put down new rock on the east end of Jimmy Beckley Road to improve access for Marshall Bailey’s sweet potato operation at the former Kellwood facility.
The board appointed Alfredo “Shorty” Camargo to the zoning board of adjustment.
