Rudy Pope, of Bruce, was sworn in as the new district three representative on the Calhoun County School Board during an extremely brief meeting in Pittsboro.
Pope’s first meeting lasted less than 20 minutes as Superintendent Mike Moore gave a brief report and a handful of student transfers and personnel moves were approved.
“It’s been a good, quiet start to school,” Moore told the board.
He also noted that all Calhoun school children are now riding air conditioned buses.
“We have a really good bus fleet,” Moore said. “In fact, we're hosting a bus seminar for the state at our place. That's a first for us.”
Student transfers approved included Emily Brooks and Cassidy Hawkins from Calhoun to Water Valley; Isabella Nabors from Calhoun to Houston; Tyler Kelly from Coffeeville to Calhoun.
Personnel items approved were – revised coaching supplement for Neil Buhrmaster as asst. football coach at Vardaman and reallocated it to Brad Easley; Shirley McFarland hired as teacher; Tonia Easley hired as MSIS clerk; Christina Stacy resigned as teacher assistant; Autumn Baker hired as teacher assistant; Substitute teachers hired were Nanette Jennings and McKarley Shankle at CCMS, Tia Jennings and Savanna Greene at CCHS, Brittany Dauzat and Jenna Campbell at VES, Linda Gail Haire and Brandi Bray at VHS; Anthony King, Jakobe Thomas and Tonya McNease hired as student cafeteria workers; Loretta Slaughter and Buhrmaster resigned as bus drivers; Josh Hegwood hired as bus driver; Nancy Barefield and Chad White hired as substitute bus drivers.
