Calhoun County Supervisors set a public hearing for Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. at the Calhoun County Courthouse to get public input on a proposal for Calhoun Health Services to seek bids for a new lease agreement for the hospital.
The current contract with North Mississippi Medical Center expires Sept. 30. The hospital board has proposed to the county the possibility of seeking bids for another management contract, or perhaps a lease agreement of the entire physical property. CHS Administrator James Franklin told The Journal in July, when this was first reported, that NMMC and Baptist are both among the interested bidders whichever option the county chooses.
In other news from Tuesday’s meeting:
•The board hosted a public hearing on the county budget, but no citizens attended, so the proposed budget was approved as presented.
•The board approved a low bid of $555,858 from J.J. Ferguson for a bridge project on CR 177. The only other bid received was from Dozer LLC for $591,154. The engineer’s estimate for the job was $465,00.
•Board approved a contract with McCarty Architects for the expansion project at Calhoun Health Services.
•Bill Saint Sing, with Employee Benefit Services, informed supervisors county’s health insurance cost likely to rise 6%.
•Finished box culvert project on Duncan Hill Road accepted by board. supervisor Tony Morgan said he hopes to pave it next year after it has time to set up.
•Board approved hiring of Wayne Plunk as a full time deputy.
•Earnest fox authorized to advertise for a used 1-ton dump truck.
