Calhoun Academy dropped their fourth straight game Friday night falling to North Sunflower at home 28-22.
The Cougars controlled the ball for most of first quarter with Beau Walker scoring the first touchdown of the game with 1:36 left. Quarterback Scott Shankle punched in the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 advantage.
North Sunflower intercepted a Cougar pass to set up their first score midway through the second quarter to cut the lead to 8-6.
Walker would strike again with 2:56 left in the first half with a long TD run. Shankle converted for two and the Cougars led 16-6, but Walker would leave the game and not return.
North Sunflower answered, scoring in the final 30 seconds and adding a successful conversion to enter the half trailing the Cougars 16-12.
The visitors opened the third quarter with a touchdown drive to take their first lead of the night. They converted for two for a 20-16 score with 7:30 left in the third.
The Cougars opened the fourth quarter hitting a long pass to Dalton Poynor and followed that with a 35 yard TD pass to Shankle for a 22-20 lead.
North Sunflower answered with a touchdown and 2-point conversion to go up 28-22 and then held the Cougars. A couple of Cougar defensive penalties allowed Sunflower to run out the clock to preserve the win.
