Bruce Rotary Auction, Calhoun City Parade kick off Christmas festivities Thursday night

A flurry of Christmas activities around Calhoun County will begin Thursday, Dec. 3 with the annual Bruce Rotary Christmas Auction and the Calhoun City Parade.
The Bruce Rotary Club’s annual auction will take place inside the Bruce Museum. Doors will open at 5 p.m. where auction items will be displayed and soup and cornbread will be sold.
The auction will begin at 6 p.m. with Charles Chrestman again serving as auctioneer. Items up for bid include toys, pallets of Banner sod, Weyerhaeuser lumber, tools, local services and much more.

The Calhoun City Christmas Parade will begin that same night at 6:30 p.m.
Parade entries should be submitted by 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 to the Chamber of Commerce at 628-6990. CCHS Band Boosters will be selling refreshments on the square during the parade. Grand Marshals are Natchez Trace Electric Power.

christmas-parade artBruce festivities will be on Saturday, Dec. 5 beginning with the annual Pancakes with Santa hosted by the 20th Century Club in the Bruce Museum from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
In addition to a pancake breakfast, children will be able to get their pictures made with Santa and hear stories from Mrs. Claus.
Santa will move out on to the Bruce Square from 2-3:30 p.m. to visit with children in the gazebo.

The Bruce Christmas Parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the theme “A Fairy Tale Christmas.” Dr. Bruce Longest will serve as grand marshal this year.
Each float will receive expense money and there is no charge to enter the parade.  The deadline to sign up for participation in the parade is Friday, Nov. 27. Call Jerry Janci, 662-412-2029 for more information.

The Fine Arts Club of Bruce will host the annual Christmas Tour of Homes on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 1:30-4 p.m.
The tour will start at Bruce United Methodist Church where refreshments will be available. Homes on tour are Marshall and Whitney Bailey, Shawn and Emily Snellings, and Larry and Christi Stacy.
Tickets are $8 and available from any Fine Arts Club member, at Jeffery’s, or at the church on the day of the event.

The Jesse Yancy Memorial Library in Bruce is hosting a holiday silent auction that will conclude on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

The annual Vardaman Christmas Parade will be Thursday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street. Grand Marshals for this year’s parade will be John Jasper Adams and Ruben Byars.

The final parade in the county will once again be the 16th Annual Big Creek Redneck Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.
Lineup will begin at 5 p.m. and the parade will be held rain or shine. A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the number one “redneck.” Call 628-6882 after 5 p.m. for more information.

Other area Christmas parade dates include Dec. 1 in Grenada, Dec. 5 in Water Valley, Dec. 7 for Oxford and Pontotoc.
