A Vardaman man is in custody at the Calhoun County Jail after assaulting a coach at a Vardaman Junior High softball game.
Eric Tedder was arrested tonight (Thursday) at his home and charged with simple assault as a result of his involvement in a fight with Vardaman softball coach Billy Dill earlier Thursday night.
Vardaman Police Chief Kenny Scott said Tedder and Dill had a confrontation after a junior high softball game at the Sportsplex. It was believed the confrontation started over an argument regarding playing time for Tedder’s daughter.
The two men went to the ground during the altercation. Scott said Sportsplex Director Caleb Tedder had to pull Eric Tedder off of Dill. Caleb and Eric Tedder are cousins.
Scott said Caleb Tedder then told Eric Tedder to go home and he did. Caleb Tedder then reported the incident to the police. Scott, accompanied by Deputy Juston Robertson, went to Eric Tedder’s home and took him into custody without incident.
Scott said he wasn’t certain at this time of any injuries Dill may have suffered. Dill has not been charged with anything.
Scott said Eric Tedder would meet with a judge in the morning and that it was possible the chatge could be heightened as a result of the assault taking place against a school teacher/coach.
