Calhoun City made easy work of Walnut Friday night advancing to the Class 2A North semifinals with a 43-6 win.
They will host West Bolivar next Friday in one semifinals. Eupora and Baldwyn will play in the other.
The outcome of Friday’s game at Walnut was never in doubt as the Wildcats dominated the home team with 40 first half points.
Touchdown runs by Cartin McBride and Levarious Varnado and a 62-yard touchdown pass from QB Chakel Gates to Varnado gave ‘City a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.
They padded that with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Gates to Brieton Sykes early in the second quarter.
Sykes and Gates would hook up again on a 21 yard score and McBride would punch in a 1-yard touchdown run for a 40-0 lead at the half.
The clock ran continuously in the second half with the only scoring coming on a 26 yard field goal by Jordan England.
The Wildcats improved to 9-3 with the win.
