Three children died as a result of an early morning house fire in Vardaman Saturday.
The fire started around 2:45 a.m. at 119 First Street in Vardaman at the home of Kim Brown. Firemen on the scene said Brown lived there with her five children.
The home was completely engulfed when firemen arrived on scene. Brown and her two oldest children, 14 and 15 years old, escaped the fire.
Three younger children – seven year old twins Isabel Alejandro Razo and Yobani Cecilio Razo and eight year old Oscar Ernest Razo – were trapped in the house.
Their bodies were transported to a funeral home in Houston.
Early indications were the fire started from a portable space heater.
The fire remains under investigation.
Anyone wishing to donate to a relief fund for the family can do so by contacting Vardaman First Baptist, the Vardaman School Support Group and the Vardaman Police Department.
Vardaman Police Chief Kenneth Scott said an account will be established at BancorpSouth in Vardaman Monday morning for people to donate there as well.
The Journal will report additional information on the victims and the fire as it becomes available.
