Quinton Johnson Anglin, 92, of Memphis and formerly of the Loyd community in Calhoun County, died December 2, 2013. He was born March 21, 1921 in Reid, the son of Arice Lee and Irene Brown Anglin. He was a member of Loyd Baptist Church and was retired from Shelby County Health Department after 33 years. Spending his early years on the farm, he enlisted in the Army in 1943 during World War II, where he served in the Philippines in the 793AAA Battalion, one of 38 M115 8” Howitzer Battalions. He was one of 60 survivors rescued from life boats after his ship was hit and sunk by a Japanese torpedo. Visitation will be Thursday at 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at noon at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. Bro. James Brown will be officiating and Bro. Robert Earl Alexander assisting. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Vardaman. Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Michael)?Putt and Gail Wilkes, both of Memphis; two grandchildren, Michael Putt Jr. and Jennifer Key, and three great-grandchildren, Michael Blake Putt, Noah Aron Key and Abel Joshua Key. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeweleen Boatner Anglin; three brothers, A.L., Garnell and Willie Ray Anglin, and four sisters, Dollie Brown, Eunice Owens, Nettie Lee Moore and Frances Murray.
