Calhoun City wins third consectuvie Class I Girls Powerlifting State Championship

The Calhoun City Lady Wildcats won their third consecutive powerlifting state championship last week in Jackson.

It was a decisive victory for the Lady Wildcats who earned 58 points. Bruce finished second in the state with 23 points. East Union took third.

“The girls had a solid day of lifting,” Calhoun City Powerlifting Coach Perry Liles said. “Our technique was a big part of our success because the judging was very strict. We are very proud of our girls to three-peat as Class I state champions.”

Five Lady Wildcats finished first in their weight class – Laquianna Norris (114), Alicia Feliciano (123), Landyn Stoddard (132), Kiara McKissick (165), and Courtny Norman (220).
Bruce’s Jasmine Flemons finished first in the 220-plus weight class.
Second place finishers for Calhoun City were Perry Beth Liles (105), Adaysia Edwards (114), Mykeria Holland (123) and Yakema Harper (132).
Second place finishers for Bruce were Shelby Leachman (97) and Jakina Steen (165).

Mary Mason Langford, of Calhoun City, earned third in the 97-pound weight class. Brooke Bennett (105) and Tamera Talford (181) both finished third in their respective weight classes.
Other local lifters included Shanya Mugford of Calhoun City who placed fourth in the 198 pound class and Julianna Cain, of Bruce, sixth in the 114 pound class.
The Bruce Trojans placed fourth in Class 2A with three first place lifters. Calhoun City earned fifth. East Union, Scott Central and Lake took the top three spots in 2A. Bay Springs finished fourth. Bassfield, Eupora, Mantachie and Mize rounded out the top ten.

First place finishers were Bruce Trojans Junior Ramirez (148), Latrell Marks (165) and Jamar Brown (198).
Michael Roberson (148) of Calhoun City was the only local lifter to place second in his class.

Micah Moore (123) and Noah Hill (308), both of Calhoun City, and Jatravius Freelon (275) of Bruce finished third in their respective classes.
Other Bruce lifters were Jacquez Jackson (308-plus) who earned fourth and Haylon Hamilton (114) who finished sixth.
Other Calhoun City lifters were Keeshun Bobo (275) fourth, Easton Doles (242) fifth, Jaalen Thomas (181) fifth, and Shaquille Wright (220) seventh.
