The Vardaman Lady Rams punched their ticket to the third round of the playoffs Thursday, while Calhoun City’s baseball team and the Bruce Lady Trojans both suffered losses.
The 11-5 loss for Bruce at Riverside ended the series and their season. After sweeping Coahoma in the first round, the Lady Trojans fell victim to the sweep against Riverside.
The Vardaman Lady Rams completed their second consecutive sweep knocking off top seed Jumpertown 8-1 to close that series. The Lady Rams will now advance to face Hamilton beginning today at 6 p.m. in Vardaman for game one of the North Half Semifinals.
Calhoun City lost 9-3 to Baldwyn Thursday night in the first game of their 2nd round playoff series. Chakel Gates took the loss for the Wildcats. Chris Easley, Jordan England and Evan Parker all pitched in relief.
England led the offense with a single and a double.
Game two is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. in Calhoun City. If the Wildcats can force a game three, it will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Baldwyn.
