The Pittsboro board approved the purchase of a new computer and briefly discussed water rates, a new fire truck and the store on the square during Tuesday’s meeting.
The new computer and software transfer will cost approximately $1,000 and was recommended by the town’s software provider BBI.
The board briefly discussed the proposed water rate increase tentatively agreed on at the last meeting, but still took no official action. Cindy Hubbard, who presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor Reda Bullard, said alderman Fred Bullard, who was also absent, had received several calls of concern about the possible increase.
The board agreed to revisit the issue when they were all present.
The board was informed that Pittsboro One Stop had opened on the square and was doing some short order lunches. Gas pumps were not ready yet, but that is still in the works.
It was also reported that 13 official petitions had been turned in supporting legalizing alcohol in the town and several had been picked up in the past week. Twenty-four have to be signed and turned in to initiate a referendum.
