Mayor J.R. Denton told the Calhoun City Board of Aldermen at their meeting last night that two days had been spent repairing potholes in the streets, which has been a major concern for some time. He said work was done on Taylor, King Drive, Caldwell and others.
The Baseball Boosters Club has requested that the chain link fence in the outfield of the one that the high school baseball team uses be replaced with a wooden one, Denton said. The Boosters would pay for the fence, but are requesting that the city pay for the paint, which would cost $1,250. The board agreed to do it, but said it is important to wait six months for the wood to cure or else it would not hold the paint.
Two items were added to the agenda to be discussed by Alderman Marshall Coleman, but he was not present for the meeting. Also not present was Alderman Larry Bratton.
In his report, the mayor commended Chamber of Commerce president Laura Edwards on the job she is doing and asked for that to be made a part of the minutes.
In other action, they:
• re-issued a check to Vicki Darnell for $50 to replace one given in 2007 for summer reading program entertainment that never cleared the bank;
• agreed to set a work date for the budget in June when all members can be present;
• authorized publishing a list of lands sold for 2011 taxes that will become absolute in the name of the purchaser unless redemption from tax sale is made on or before August 25, 2014;
• approved payment on Sewer Replacement Project for Greenbrier for $38,886.88 and to Willis Engineering for $4,200.
