The 47-7 loss at Noxapater wasn’t the worst part of last Friday night for Vardaman Coach Larry Gann. He saw his team regress from the previous weeks.

“We had a lot of great individual efforts, but as a team we didn’t play well,” Gann said. “I thought it was the worst we’ve played this year.”
Among the individual efforts Gann referenced were several “nice catches and runs” by Brandon Washington. Kent Casey led the team with four catches and QB Brandon Walker was solid both running and throwing.

“We had a lot of dropped passes,” Gann said. “But the passes were right there.”
The Rams drove inside the Noxapater 20-yard line six times during the game, but only once could they come away with any points.
“We seemed to find a way not to get the ball into the end zone,” Gann said. “We moved it down the field alright, but when we got close we just disintegrated – call the wrong formation, have a bad snap, jump offsides. It was always something.”

“We have to get to where we take advantage of our opportunities, where we have more makes than misses. If we can get all 11 players on the field to execute at the same time we can be successful.”
The Rams begin region play this week with Hamilton visiting Carter Field.

“Hamilton has a lot back from last year,” Gann said. “They have a strong team with a lot of juniors and seniors.”
“The positive for us is we’re all 0-0 in the region. Now we can go to work and get some wins first, but ultimately our goal is still to make the playoffs.”
