A referendum on beer and liquor could be coming soon to Pittsboro after enough names were turned in to Town Hall Tuesday evening.

Clerk Amy White said 28 signatures had been turned in on the petition in favor of beer and alcohol, more than is required (24) to initiate a referendum, but still had to be verified to make certain they were all registered voters in Pittsboro.

Town officials said 26 of the names have been matched to the voter roll, but official certification will have to come from the circuit clerk’s office.

Once the names are certified, the town board will then have the option of adding the referendum to the Nov. 4 election or holding a separate election.
