Next Christmas, I’ll buy the hardest gifts first

This year, I have realized the pattern of my Christmas shopping over the past few years, but it’s too late to do anything about it.
Usually in mid-October I get off to a fast start. Making my list, picking up items– rolling and going. But by mid-November, I start to lag. When Thanksgiving rolls around, the shopping mood is over, which leaves December as panic time.
I have also noticed that I accomplish the easy to buy for people first, leaving the hard ones to the last minute. Next year, I will remedy that.

Part of my cleaning routine at home in addition to normal everyday things, is cleaning out a closet, drawer, etc. at least once a month. It’s not such a bad task, when you tackle it occasionally.
The last project was the bathroom drawer that holds my makeup, hairbrushes, bobby pins, ponytail holders, a hand mirror, tweezers, etc.
It was downright embarrassing to see what a mess it had become. I had it sparkling and was putting everything back, when I dropped the hand mirror. Of course, it broke into a million little pieces on the tile floor.
My first thought was that I really didn’t want to clean that up. During the cleanup, I had a worse thought.  Seven years of bad luck would put me at age 61. Then I felt nauseous.

Again this week, sister Celia went to a show and ran up on a performer with Calhoun county roots.
Celia, husband Lanny and daughter Abby went to the Orpheum Friday to see “A Christmas Story-The Musical.”
One of Celia’s Bruce High School 1976 classmates, Deanna Davis Ott, was a member of the ensemble also playing an elf and a nurse. Deanna lives in Collierville and performs in many theater shows in the Memphis area. She is the daughter of Dixie Davis and the late Ray Davis, who lived on Hwy 32 west of Bruce.

The deadline for Santa letters is a week from today, Wednesday, Dec. 10. They will be printed in the Christmas edition of the Journal Dec. 17. The early deadline is due to so many of them having to be re-typed, which we don’t mind, but it takes a lot of time.
You can email to calhouncountyjournal@gmail.com; fax to 662-983-7667 or drop by The Journal.
Also if you want us to take a photo of your business or employees for the Christmas edition, please let us know.

A couple of changes from last year in Christmas activities is the Bruce Rotary Auction which will be moved to Thursday night at the Bruce Museum. Also Calhoun City’s parade, which has typically been on a Monday, will move to Saturday, Dec. 6 after the Bruce Parade.
Bruce parade at 4:30 p.m. and Calhoun City at 7 p.m. Vardaman parade is the following Thursday, Dec. 11 and Big Creek’s Saturday, Dec. 13.

When the Oxford Chargers face Laurel for the 5A State Championship Saturday, Junior Jack Abraham will be leading them as quarterback.
Abraham is the son of Michael Abraham who has a dental practice in Calhoun City.
