The Pittsboro board adopted a resolution Tuesday night to send to Sen. Russell Jolly, Rep. Jim Beckett and other state leaders urging them to amend state statute to allow county seats to approve the sell of beer if desired by voters.

As reported in the Dec. 22 CCJ, the December election in Pittsboro approving beer was voided after it was discovered state statute didn’t allow it as previously thought.
The election to approve liquor has been upheld and Attorney Ben Suber informed the board Tuesday a certified copy of the new liquor ordinance was sent to the Department of Revenue.

State legislators have stated it was their intention for beer to be included in the statute as well, but somehow was omitted. The board hopes the lawmakers will use the resolution to correct the matter.

Suber told the board Tuesday he was notified that someone has already begun looking into establishing a package store in Pittsboro.
Mayor Reda Bullard said she’s had inquiries from someone interested in locating a Mexican restaurant in the county seat because there they could serve margaritas.
