The Lady Wildcats will host Walnut Monday night and if they win, would face the West Bolivar Coahoma Ag winner on Friday.
“The key to success this week will be communication, pressure defense and everyone handling their role,” Lady Wildcats’ Coach Rob Fox said.
The Lady Wildcats opened the region tournament with a thrilling victory over Eupora. After opening an early 10 point lead, Eupora chipped away and took a two point lead of their own with less than a minute to play in the district 4-2A semifinal.
Calhoun City tied the game at 71 with :29 left to play and then Kiya Flowers stole a Lady Eagle pass and broke for the basket laying it in to put the Lady Wildcats on top for good with 16 seconds left. Another free throw from Flowers, who finished with 11 points in the game, ended the game with a 74-71 Lady Wildcat win. Sierra Coleman led ‘City with 21 points.
“We played fairly well, but not to our potential,” Fox said. “It was good to see a couple of my younger girls stepping in and making plays this time of the year.”
The Lady Wildcats fell to host East Webster 62-56 in Friday’s championship game.
That makes them a two seed entering the state playoffs Monday night.
