Billy Gene Colbert, 82, of Vardaman, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Born May 10, 1932 in Tyler, Tx., he was the son of the late Eugene Colbert and Nora May Staples Colbert. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a self-employed paint contractor, and member of Midway Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Betty Jo Towery Colbert, Vardaman; a son, Samuel E. Colbert of Vardaman; step-son, Robert (Linda)Edwards, South Korea; two daughters, Karen (Hugh) Haley, Murchison, TX and Gina (Kevin M.) Hall of Vardaman; two sisters, Earline Smith, Tyler, TX and Pat Martin, Longview, TX; 16 grand children; 3 great grand children. xxxAlso preceded by two daughters, Damita Valentine and Nora Anderson, a sister, Geneva Benson, three brothers, Johnny Colbert, Charles Colbert, and Tommy Colbert.
His funeral service was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Adam Gaspard officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Vardaman. Pallbearers were Billy Barfield, Kevin Hall, Mike Harrell, Bobby Inman, David Marshall, and Robert Wiggs. Honorary pallbearers were Kevin C. Hall and Wayne Johnson.
