The Calhoun City Wildcats were the only Calhoun County team to produce a victory on the opening day of the softball/baseball playoffs Thursday.

The Lady Rams saw a 2-0 lead slip away in an 8-2 playoff loss to Pine Grove Thursday.

The Wildcats steamrolled over Potts Camp 16-3 in five innings Thursday night with Evan Parker earning the win. Game two of the best of three series is tonight (Friday) at 6:30 p.m. at Calhoun City.

The Bruce Trojans suffered a 7-2 loss at Strayhorn Thursday afternoon in their playoff opener. Broc Peden and Kirby Ross pitched for the Trojans. Game two is tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m. at Odis Logan Field in Bruce. If the Trojans win tonight, the deciding game three would be at Strayhorn Saturday afternoon.

The Bruce Lady Trojans opened the playoffs with a 5-3 loss to New Site at home. The Lady Trojans led early 2-0 but couldn’t hold on down the stretch. Games two and three, if necessary, will be today at New Site.

The Vardaman Lady Rams had the same fate as Bruce. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but it was all Pine Grove from there as they rallied for an 8-2 win at the James Boyd Parker Sportsplex in Vardaman. The Lady Rams will travel to Pine Grove today to try and keep their season alive.
