Softball season ended Friday night in Calhoun County, but baseball still has life.
Calhoun City defeated Potts Camp 12-0 to complete a two game sweep of their opening round series. The Wildcats will advance to face Hatley beginning Tuesday.
Jace Leachman earned the win Friday night allowing only two hits in five innings of work. Jo Gray and Clint Wolfe led the offense with two hits each.
Bruce is still alive, but in a deep hole. Rain stopped the Trojans’ game two matchup with Strayhorn Friday night at Odis Logan Field with the score tied in the eighth inning. Strayhorn had two runners on and no outs.
The Trojans are down 1-0 in the series and must pull out the win to prolong their season. It has yet to be decided if Strayhorn will return to Bruce to complete game two, or the two teams will complete game two at Strayhorn and then play game three there. The suspended game will not be continued on Sunday, so it remains to be decided if they will try on Sunday or wait until Monday. The series must be completed Monday because the next round of playoffs begins Tuesday.
The Bruce Lady Trojans and Vardaman Lady Rams were both swept out of the playoffs. Bruce lost 14-0 Friday afternoon at New Site to end their season. Vardaman lost 6-2 at Pine Grove.
