Harold Edward Walls, 87, died Monday, April 20, 2015 at West Tennessee Transitional Care in Jackson, Tn. He was born March 25th, 1928, in Vardaman to Hosea Littleton Walls and Annie Lee Vanlandingham Walls. He was a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who began his military career during the Korean War. He flew missions with the Strategic Air Command in the Cold War and with the Tactical Air Command in the Vietnam War. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross during service in Vietnam. After the Air Force, he was a pilot for MP Enterprises and other corporations in Houston and served in the Mississippi Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Houston’s First Baptist Church where he taught a boy’s Sunday School class for many years.
Service was Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Houston with Bro. Daniel Heeringa officiating. Burial was in Bruce Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home in Houston was in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his children, Mark Walls, Jackson, Tn., Dr. Susan Walls, Gainesville, Fl.; Calvin Walls, Olive Branch; two brothers, Elmon A. Walls, West Point and Hugh F. (Pete) Walls, Vardaman; four sisters, Etoyle Caudill, Mountain View, Ar., Orene Walters, Calhoun City, and Betty Ballard and Norma Lillard, Memphis, Tn.; his grandchildren, Jon Mark Walls, Geneva, Switzerland; Evan Walls, Jackson, Tn., and Noah and Jonah Walls, Olive Branch; two daughters-in-law, Dr. Jean Marie Turcotte Walls and Candace Wilhite Walls, a son-in-law, Dr. Joe Mitchell; a brother-in-law, Ed Lillard; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Walls and Ruth Walls; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Sue Young Walls, his parents, Hosea and Annie Walls, one sister, Margaret Moore, two brothers, L.V. (Bill) Walls and Howard Walls; three nephews, Randy Walls, Eric Walls, and Michael Lillard, and one niece, Joan Lee.
Pallbearers will be William “Rocky” Fleming, Lieutenant Colonel Larry O. Bonds, Jr., Dr. Joseph S. Young, Dr. Joe Mitchell, Steve Walls, Joel Walls, Steven Walls, Evan Walls, and Jon Mark Walls.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home and 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25th at Houston First Baptist Church.
