Maurine Edwards Lee was born June 23, 1930, in Southern Illinois, to Guy and Ruby Clark Edwards. As a child she gave her heart and life to the Lord Jesus. She graduated from Sesser High School in 1948, then attended Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, graduating in 1952. There she found the love of her life, George C. Lee of Calhoun City,  and they married August 8, 1951. Their commitment to the Lord led them to Shelton, Ne. in 1954 as Free Will Baptist Home Missionaries. In the years that followed, George pastored churches in Memphis; Durham, NC; Albany, Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee, and Goldsboro, NC.

A service celebrating jer life was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Victory Free Will Baptist Church. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

As a pastor’s wife and mother, she knew the power of prayer and she was a prayer warrior. She began each day reading God’s Word and spending time in prayer.

She found her place in life through service to others. She faithfully sent birthday and anniversary cards to family, friends, and church members. She loved to bake and can and freeze and preserve, and then generously share it with others. She was skilled in sewing, crochet, and quilting, again, to give away. Making something beautiful for someone else gave her joy.

She devoted many years of service on the local, state and international level of FWB women’s ministries. She wrote and edited for the FWB Sunday School Department.

She will be remembered for her knowledge and understanding of the Bible shared in the wonderful Sunday School classes she taught, for her compassion for others, and for her gentle spirit.

Maurine is survived by her husband of 63 years, George C. Lee; their children: Melinda (Ken) Caughron, Fremont; Mary (Bill) Vaughn, Hendersonville TN; Tom (Hiller) Lee, Raleigh NC, and Paul Lee, Goldsboro, and their grandsons, Gabriel Lee, Eric Vaughn, and Chris Vaughn. She is also survived by her sister, Ruthann Hall, and sisters-in-law, Esther Edwards, Lora Holland, Nellie Yelverton and Wanda Harrelson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Don, and four sisters, Lois, Reba, Mary Lou and Rosemary.

Donations in Maurine’s memory may be made to Welch College (3606 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN 37205-9989) or The Gideons International, P.O. Box 10093, Goldsboro NC 27532).
