Pittsboro will hold a special election June 16 to find a successor to Alderman Les Morgan who resigned last month.
Morgan submitted his resignation to the board at the April meeting saying he had sold his house in Pittsboro and was moving. A special election is required to find a replacement who will serve the remainder of the term which expires at end of 2017.
Mayor Bullard said three people have already picked up qualifying papers to run for the open board seat. Potential qualifiers must submit a petition signed by 15 registered voters. The deadline for qualifying will be Wednesday, May 27.
In the only other business, the board approved a resolution related to the grant for the new fire truck for the Pittsboro Fire Department.
Alderwoman Barbara Kellum and Attorney Ben Suber were absent from the meeting.
